Friendship cities

Friendship Cities consist of a less formal arrangement with less administrative and financial expectation, which may be appropriate in meeting short term needs and supporting programs run by other sections of the community.

Darwin City Council signed a Friendship Agreement with the Japanese city of Kibi-Cho in Darwin on 8 August 2003 . This affiliation flowed from an education exchange program and resulting ongoing relationship between a Kibi-Cho School and Dripstone High School in Darwin.

The annual exchange program is facilitated through the NT Department of Employment, Education and Training and has provided great benefit in cultural exchange between the two cities for some years. Council is exploring other Friendship City relationships are being explored for inclusion in the program.
