Family histories and genealogy

The Genealogical Society of the Northern Territory Inc offers excellent research facilities through its library located on the first floor of Cavenagh Court at 25 Cavenagh St, Darwin. The library is run by volunteers and opens on Tuesdays from 10.30am to 5.45pm and Saturdays from 1.30pm to 5.45pm.

The Society specialises in Northern Territory records and has been active in collating information from National Archive records, which were deteriorating and  difficult to read.

The Society has Births, Deaths and Marriages indexes from all Australian states and New Zealand. It has many other records on microfiche/microfilm such as cemetery, shipping, post office directories, divorce, convict, school, probates public servant records, funeral directors, government gazettes, land, naturalisations and more. These compliment the large range of books on all states of Australia and overseas.

Society members receive a quarterly journal Progenitor , which is exchanged for journals of other Australian state societies, as well as societies in New Zealand, Canada, USA, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Sweden and Poland.

If you would like to join the Genealogical Society or receive more information about the facilities and resources it provides, email gsntinc@bigpond.net.au
