Arts and Cultural Development Program

Darwin City Council recognises the valuable contribution of the Arts sector to a thriving, creative and cohesive community. Council’s support for the arts includes:

  • Sponsorship of major arts and cultural events, such as the Darwin Festival, Sculpture in the Park, Darwin Fringe and Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival
  • Sponsorship of arts organisations, such as the Darwin City Brass Band
  • Sponsorship of one-off community arts and cultural events
  • In-kind support, e.g. fee waivers, provided to arts and community organisations for one-off events
  • Community grants of up to $5,000 for one-off projects which benefit the community
  • Commission and maintenance of works of public art
  • Ongoing funding for infrastructure, including the Darwin Entertainment Centre and Botanic Gardens Amphitheatre
  • Partnerships with arts organisations to deliver specific programs
  • Provision of facilities for arts organisations, such as Corrugated Iron Youth Arts at the Nightcliff Community Centre
  • Coordination of events involving arts practitioners during Youth Week, Seniors Month and Disability Awareness Week
  • Arts and cultural development activities as part of the Libraries program
  • Recreation events including Free Recreation and Entertainment for Everyone in the ParkS (FREEPS)
  • Children’s events including Fun Bus and Fun in the Parks
