Traveller’s Walk Mosaic – 2002
Location: linkage between Harry Chan Ave and Kitchener Drive
The mosaic depicts the arrival and welcome of travellers from many distant lands between 1870 and 1940. Travellers would disembark their ships at Stokes Hill Wharf and make the steep climb up the walkway to Chinatown in Cavenagh Street. Some continued their journey to the Pine Creek gold fields and far beyond. The bottles, stones and ceramics used in this mosaic were found in the vicinity of this walkway.
Commissioned by the Northern Territory Government. Presented to the City of Darwin in 2002.
