Conditions of employment
Darwin City Council is a generous employee offering attractive conditions for its personnel across all areas. All employees of Darwin City Council receive:
- Six weeks annual leave, with loading
- Three weeks personal leave on full pay
- Shift penalties may apply
- Nine weeks paid maternity leave / one week paid paternity leave
- Three months long service leave after ten years of continuous service
- Pro rata long service leave paid out after seven years of continuous service on resignation
As well, the Council holds a Long Service Award function around November each year to formally recognise continuous long service.
Service with other NT Councils may be considered in recognition of service for long service leave purposes.
Membership of the Social Club is optional at just $2.50 per week.
Superannuation is offered at 9% or 11% if an employee also contributes at least 2.5% of their salary to super.
The Council also offers salary sacrificing of superannuation
Indoor officers
Staff employed under the Municipal Officers Award:
Are required to work 72.5 hours per fortnight
District allowance without dependents $57.62 per fortnight (full-time employee)
District allowance with dependents $100.42 per fortnight (full-time employee)
A generic council corporate uniform may be purchased
If you are employed in the regulatory services or customer services roles you will be supplied with a uniform, excepting library services
Outdoor employees
Staff employed under the Municipal Employees Award:
Are required to work 76 hours per fortnight, but work 80 hours per fortnight to provide one rostered day off every four weeks.
District allowance with dependents $54.70 per fortnight (full-time employee)
District allowance with dependents $95.66 per fortnight (full-time employee)
Uniforms and personal protective equipment supplied
Probation
Probation is the initial period during which:
the employee assesses the organisation to confirm whether the work suits their career development; and at the same time, allows the organisation to assess the employee's conduct, attitude and performance to determine whether the employee's permanent appointment should be confirmed, extended or terminated. Probation is usually for three months but may be extended in certain circumstances.
A person on probation's employment status is not confirmed until the probationary period has been successfully completed.
