Elections

There are four Electoral Districts or Wards within the Darwin Municipality and each Ward returns three aldermen at an election held every four years. There are some 40,000 voters in the Darwin Municipality.

The next Local Government Electionis being held on Saturday 31st March 2012. This includes elections for Aldermen and Lord Mayor for the Darwin City Council.

The Darwin City Council was established in 1957 and operates under the Northern Territory Local Government Act 1993. There are 13 Elected Members, one of whom is the Lord Mayor, all of whom are elected by the people.
