My wife Margot and I moved to Darwin in 1977 when I took up a position as a science teacher at Darwin High School.

In 1989 I was elected to the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly for the seat of Wanguri for the Australian Labor Party.

Between 1989 and when I retired in 1999 I held a wide variety of shadow Ministerial portfolios as well as serving as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition.

I am currently working as a Consultant for Timor Aid and have a private practice in Psychology.  I completed a BA in Psychology and Biology and a Dip. ED.

My interests vary from classic motorcycles and windsurfing to attaining statehood for the Northern Territory and the day-to-day cut and thrust of politics.

My wife and I have two children, Jack and James.
